I am a Mint Mobile customer. I really like them, and they are reasonably priced. I have a plan that is $205/year which is very affordable. Considering that the Big 3 in the United States starts their plans at around $60/month, the less than $20/month I pay with Mint is a blessing for my meager financial resources. Yes, my plan only gives me 5GB of data per month, but I am in a trusted Wifi Network much of the time, and the data provided by Mint is more than sufficient with my lifestyle, and resources needed. I also have good international rates, although I have yet to need to call an international number, so the money I added for international calls has yet to be used.
So what is my problem with Mint Mobile? Well, they don’t support RCS for iPhones! With iOS 18+, RCS is an option assuming that the carrier will support it with iPhones. This was made known by Apple in WWDC in early 2024. This meant that carriers had the opportunity to get everything they will need to do so they can support RCS. This is the main reason I wanted to upgrade to iOS 18. However, once upgrading to iOS 18, I learned the hard way that Mint has yet to offer support. Any non iMessage message I send from the default SMS client is SMS only. I contacted Support through X, and asked about it. They told me that they don’t have a timeline for support. Further research suggests maybe sometime in December.
So what the H*** was Mint doing from WWDC-24 to now in regards to RCS for the iPhone. They know that this was a feature that many iPhone users wanted, but they have been sitting on their hands. So as of now (2024-10-04), iOS is not supported, and I don’t have any definitive timeline. This is very disappointing. Yes, I understand that there would be some sacrifice from having such a reasonable price with my phone service, but this was not necessary. That is my opinion though.
